We are closer to Hollywood

'We are closer to Hollywood' – such statements aren't something new as we would have heard our filmmakers and producers uttering it over and again. But on pars, there are few auteurs exerting their earnest efforts of pulling such statements into reality.

Some of the upcoming Tamil releases will follow the 'Hollywood pattern'. The major factor is that there will be no songs and unwanted parallel tracks of romance and comedy.

Gowtham Menon claims that he has pioneered with this mission as his upcoming film 'Nadunisi Naigal' doesn't boast any songs or background score either. The filmmaker has signed a top-charting sound designer from Bollywood to work on sound effects. In fact, A.R. Rahman himself has appreciated his efforts.

Next to join this bandwagon will be 'Payanam'. This bilingual movie made by Radha Mohan has Nagarjuna playing the lead role. The film is about flight hijack and a commando striving to save them. The film has a running length of just 100mins.

But the trend was already set by some of the best actors like Kamal Haasan as his yesteryear film 'Kuruthi Punal' was a stunning action thriller with no songs.

A Slice of...Nantes, France!

for my new blog feature

This week, I am happy to feature the sweet Jennifer! Jennifer is an Australian by paper and a New Zealander by birth, and is currently living in Nantes, France. Be sure to check out her lovely blog at: http://indictivedaisy.blogspot.com/. All of her art and photos and words are just perfect! Thank you Jennifer for sharing a little slice of your city with all of us.

...and a quick note from me- I'll be back in the morning with a little "life update," and now that we're settled I'll be regularly blogging as usual. :)

But for now...a Slice of Nantes, by Jennifer!

Nantes (pronounced 'nont') is a neat little city two hours south west of Paris. Nantes is a perfect example of a humble French city and much less crowed than Paris. It comes complete with Castle, Cathedral, cobblestone streets, big and small rivers, tram system, lots of water fountains, those yummy French bakeries, lots of crazy people and being France it wouldn't be complete without the French dog poo.

This city is my home away from home for many reasons and I'm glad I can share a slice of it with you.

The Jazz & Belle Plaisance Festival from the 26 - 29 August. The river side is animated for the weekend with everything from Jazz, Blues and folk music with Creperie and oyster stands and as much free fun as you want to have. Its a great way to experience the true Nantes.

Rue du Marechal Joffre, one of my favourite places in the city. Just about every type of shop you can imagine is on this street. Two bakeries, three hair salons, six kebabs shops, music shop, beautician, six bars and four really good cafes.

On this fabulous street is Le Cyclope Theatre. Its an independent theatre that's in connection with one of the bars down the street. It features some truely unique pieces of original french theatre.

La Meche Rebelle. Best Hair dressing Salon on the street. Gibus Dingriville is the owner and master of hair. He speaks French/English and is very friendly. The hair salon is named after a popular graphic novel.

Frip in Shop. Also on Marechal Joffre. Great place to get cheap vintage finds, friendly service and a coffee or two.

So there you go, a Slice of Nantes! I hope you enjoyed it.

The Oatmeal Diet

Oatmeal is one of the healthiest food ever. If you are need to do weight loss, then oatmeal is your answer. If you are plan to live healthier, then oatmeal can help you!

Though there's no particular oatmeal diet for weight loss, most of the plans that are recommended are based on incorporating varying quantities of oatmeal into the diet on a regular basis. The most common method of doing the oatmeal diet to lose weight comprises eating nothing but oatmeal for the first week. However, any diet based on a single food, i.e. excluding all other healthy foods is considered as a fad diet which will not be supportive of the health of the dieter. Therefore, it's not recommended to follow a diet where oatmeal is the only food permitted. Try avoiding instant oatmeal and granola bars for the first seven days and ensure that your calorie intake is somewhere between 900-1200 calories per day.

For the next 30 days dieters continue having ½ cup of oatmeal three times a day in addition to their regular diet. Instant oatmeal is now permitted. Calories may now be increased slightly to 1000-1300 per day.

A morning snack of ½ cup of fruit and an afternoon snack of ½ cup raw vegetables are allowed.

After 30 days you may begin to eat your normal diet while continuing with one meal and one snack of oatmeal daily. Dieters are advised to limit their intake of fats when returning to normal eating.

Read a Banned Book

Did you know that we are right dab smack in the middle of Banned Book Week? Well I didn’t either until I was reading the Urban Threads Embroidery blog and it told me so. Therefore, I think we should all go out and read some banned books. It's good for us, we might learn something, even if it's only a few new juicywords.

Here is a link to a list of a few banned books.

 A. I'm so proud Judy Blume made the list (multiple times). B. I've read more than half the books.  What does that say about my literary taste? C. "How to Eat Fried Worms" made the list?  Seriously?

Also, while you’re celebrating your freedom to read, go to urban threads website and download this free embroidery design and then stick it on your library tote bag. You’ll be glad you did!

Poor Choice Of School Names

These schools have some very funny names. Some can’t be helped because they just happen to be named after someone who just happens to have a humorous last name. But the other names are so ridiculously funny that someone should have known better.
