Being ardent fans of Ilayathalapathy Vijay, it has been a disappointing thing to see that the actor hasn't given any hits in the past 3 years except 'Pokkiri'. Now the actor has completed changed his style of film as 'Kaavalan' will not have any traces of his previous films. This is a pure heart-touching love story that has poignancies sprinkled everywhere.
Of course, couple of things has clearly signified that 'Kaavalan' is a different film from Vijay. The actor has no mass hero like introduction song and there is not even a single Kuthu song. And one more surprise: there are no punch dialogues in this film.
With so many surprising factors, it looks like 'Kaavalan' will be a hit movie and indeed a real surprise for his fans.
Kollywood Today wishes Vijay all the best that his upcoming film 'Kaavalan' will do at its best in box office.
It was an unanticipated occasion as the actors didn't expect of coming across each other. Ajith Kumar was busy shooting for a song sequence in 'Mankatha' that has Premji Amaran and Vaibhav shaking legs with him in Binny Mills. At the other end of same location, Vijay was filming for his upcoming movie 'Velayudham'.
Just as the duo happened to meet each other, it turned to be hours of conversation. Later, Ajith Kumar expressed his token of friendship through his favorite means of preparing Biryani for Vijay. The impressed 'Ilayathalapathy' went ahead by presenting him a bracelet.
The duo spent more time clicking pictures with the entire crew of 'Mankatha' and 'Velayudham'. The meeting of Ajith Kumar and Vijay has been so rare as they didn't have much time to party together.
The movie launch of 'Tirupathi' had them coming together followed by 'Tamil Nadu State Government Award' and 'CM Felicitation Ceremony'.
It is well known that Vijay and Asin are coming together for a new film 'Kaavalan', a remake of Malayalam flick 'Body Guard' which is directed by Siddique.
Hero Vijay himself told his fans that not to guess Vijay film in upcoming Kaavalan. He said that the film will be completely different to his rest of the film still now in his career. There will be no punchy and powerful dialogues as well as scary stunts in this film that are famous in his films.
The Malayalam hit film Body Guard is being remade in Tamil with the title Kaavalan. Dhilip and Nayanthara did the lead role in this film. Siddique directed this film. In Kaavalan Vijay and Asin are doing the lead roles. Siddique who directed the Malayalam film Body Guard is directing this film also. Vijay, Asin and director Siddique spoke to the media recently.
Vijay while speaking about this film said , "Siddique told me this story two years back itself. This story is different from other films. This is a romantic film. There will also fiery fighting scenes and also rib tickling comedy. There was a big problem tot title this film. We planned to title this film as Kavalkaran. Due to some reason it was not possible to do so.
Then we tried Kaaval Kadhal and finally it was titled Kavalan. I had earlier acted in Siddique's Friends. I can never forget the comedy scenes in that film. Particularly in the scene where the hammer falls on the head of Vadivelu. I will laugh even now if I happen to see that comedy. I am happy that Asin is acting with me in this film. We both of us paired in Sivakasi and Pokkiri. This is third film with our combo. This film will also be success like the other two films. In between Asin had gone for the shooting of Hindi film. Since I did not want to waste 2 months, I acted in Velayudham."

Remakes have always been safe bets for Vijay and director M Raja. With the former having a track record of films like 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai', 'Ninaithen Vandhai', 'Priyamanavale' and 'Pokkiri', the latter has carved a niche for himself doing remakes from 'Jayam' to 'Santosh Subramaniam'.
And now, both have come together for 'Velayudham', which too is said to be a remake of a Telugu hit, titled 'Aazad'. Produced by Aascar V Ravichandran, the film that was launched amidst much fanfare has two heroines- Genelia and Hansika Motwani.
Says Raja, "This is my first film with a big actor like Vijay. He suits to the role well. The movie is about an ordinary youngster who transforms as a catalyst to reform the society. I am hopeful 'Velayudham' will work big time with the audience.
"Vijay plays an enterprising youngster while Genelia is doing the role of a journalist," the director says and adds: "Hansika Motwani and Saranya Mohan are also doing crucial characters. Comedy will be taken care of by Santhanam and Sathyan." The plot is interesting. Genelia reports that a superhero is saving the city and circumstances lead Vijay to accidentally save the city from the impostors, making him the accidental superhero!
Vijay's costumes in the movie seem to be inspired from a popular game title. Though nothing is known how long he'd be wearing the costumes, the first look given by the makers suggest Vijay's up to something big!
Saying Priyan's cinematography will be a highlight and Vijay Antony has come out with catchy songs, Raja continues: "On the whole, 'Velayudham' will be a wholesome treat to not just Vijay fans, but for every movie-goer."
On his part, Vijay says, "Working for a big banner like Aascar gives me immense proud. Raja is known for his knack to deliver blockbusters without a break. 'Velayudham' is a nice story. Hopefully our combination should rock."
The much anticipated Ilaya Thalapathi starrer Sura hit the marquee today. With Sura being his 50th film, movie buffs and Vijay fans were looking forward for something different from their star. However, there is no variety in the film and it happens to be a usual Vijay fare. The script seems to be a combination from his earlier ventures. Of course, the actor does not disappoint his hard core fans, as Sura has all the elements that will satiate them. Sura is about the lives and plight of the fishermen living in Yazh Nagar, a fishing hamlet in Tamil Nadu. The story, no doubt centers only on Vijay, who is known as Sura.
It is Vijay's attempt to thwart the efforts of villain Dev Gill (who played the villain in the popular Telugu film Magadheera) from acquiring the hamlet to develop it into a resort. In chips the hero, fights for justice and dramatically obtains patta for the land so that everyone living there could build a house. However the duel between the hero and villain could have been more gripping.
The role of the heroine in this film leaves a lot of room for debate – is it really essential to have one in Sura? Tamannah appears in some dance sequences, a few scenes and in all adorns the movie as a glamour piece. This is perhaps the first film, where Tamannah marries on screen! Yes, Sura ends on a happy note with the lead pair entering wed lock.Talking about the heroine, her introduction itself is very amusing. Tamannah attempts suicide by drowning in the sea, for the simple reason that the pet dog goes missing. Of course, the hero makes his dramatic appearance to save her. Somewhere in the middle love blossoms and then follows a couple of duets. While talking about the hero Vijay's introduction it is even more amusing than the heroine's and needs a special mention here.
The movie begins with a cyclone hitting the fishing hamlet and all the fishermen moving back to the shores for safety. Vijay, of course is missing and everyone is in search of him. Being the hero, he saves one and all before making a very dramatic appearance from mid-sea.The fights in Sura could have been choreographed well, considering Vijay's performance levels in other films.
Though there are some gravity-defying stunts, the fight seems to lack the punch and force that one usually associates with a performer like the Ilaya Thalapathy. For an excellent dancer, this film offers very little scope for exhibiting his dancing skills too. The Bommayi – Choo Mandra Kali song happens to be that 'once more' type of song, while all others except En Peru Saravedi does not turn up the heat.Vadivelu's mere presence is enjoyable and there is nothing much to say about the comedy track. The scene where Vennira Aadai Murthy renders the popular song Marudamalai Maamuniye in a concert and Vadivelu gestures not to exert too much but thinking that Vadivelu is coercing him to sing even more forcefully, Vennira Aadai Murthy sings with full gusto, had the audience in splits of laughter.
There are umpteen numbers of irrational scenes in the film that has even the Vijay fans squirm in their seats with dissatisfaction. The classic example is when the actor lights up the stove with the flip of his fingers.Vijay has made sure to draw the attention of the Tamil audience by addressing the sensitive Sri Lankan Tamils issue and the Rameswaram fishermen's plight. These scenes were probably included to pacify the Tamils. The negative aspects of Sura are no doubt the music, illogical, if not slow screenplay, gravity defying stunts, slow moving scenes.
Verdict: In all, Sura is a usual Vijay fare that will be a treat for his hard core fans. review by behindwoods.com
Sura is illayathalapathy Vijay's 50th film and is one of the most eagerly awaited films in tamilnadu. The film also stars Tamannah and Vadivelu, rest of the cast is unknown as of now.The film's distribution is done by SUN pictures and Kalainithi Maran. The film is slated to release on April 30th.
The music is by Mani Sharma and the songs are already a hit.The film is directed by SP Rajkumar. The film will be released with 300prints allover Tamilnadu.
Opening songs in Vijay's films always come with a charm. Proving this once again is a number from his 51st film 'Kaavalkaran', a remake of Malayalam super hit 'Bodyguard', both directed by ace Mollywood filmmaker Siddique.
'Mannai kaappaan oruvan, Vinnai kaappaan oruvan… Ennai unnai kaakkum avaney avaney Iraivan….' These are the starting lines of the mass-intro song of the 'Ilaya Thalapathi' in the film, if sources are to be believed.
The song was recently shot on the actor and a large number of junior artistes near the famous Sri Mahalingaswamy shrine in Thiruvidaimarudur, a temple town near Kumbakonam. Also present in the shoot was Asin, the heroine of the movie.
While Vijay was spotted in a violet t-shirt and blue jean, Asin was seen wearing a brown sari. Earlier, poojas were performed at the shrine for the success of the film, we learn. A large number of students and public thronged the place after news spread that Vijay was in their place.
Sura, Vijay's 50th film, is expected to be released on April 23rd. The date release has not been announced officially as yet because the team is waiting to have it censored before announcing the date.Sura has garnered enough attention because it happens to be Ilayathalapthi's 50th film. And one more reason is that the distribution rights have been acquired by Sun Pictures, which means enough publicity and surefire success at the box office.
Sura is directed SP Rajkumar, who has left no stone unturned to make it an out-and-out commercial entertainer to satisfy Vijay's fans. The movie has Tamannah pairing up with Vijay. Vadivelu is in charge of the comedy. The music tracks, which were released recently, have already turned out to be a great success.
Nothing seemed to stop the irresistible excitements of 'Ilayathalapathy' fans as they've been eagerly awaiting his 50th film 'Sura'. With Sun Pictures planning to release the film on April 14, the audio was launched last evening at Lady Andal School. Mani Sharma's musical touch is sure to enthrall Vijay's fans for its prototyped musical style. The album has 6 tracks amongst which couple of songs has been replicated from Manisharma's Telugu album 'Billa'.
If you had ever heard Manisharma's 'Bommali' in Telugu version of 'Billa', this wouldn't keep you engrossed as the tunes are exactly the same. Somehow, the music director has tried shifting the nature of music on certain levels to suit the Tamil lyrics. Hemachandra, the same singer who crooned the Telugu song has rendered his voice for this song as well. Nothing special to mention about Na. Muthukumar's lyrical lines as they're simple and okay to hum along with tracks.
Filmmaker S.P. Rajkumar and ace Vaali have penned lyrics that have positive vibrations for heeders, in particular for Vijay fans. The song has been tuned in the similar style of 'Kannai Kattai Kolladhe' in 'Iruvar'. The prelude in flute catches up our attention while it may take some more time for this song to take on high interests.
The sensuous duet starts off with a mellisonant saxophone that is later followed by tunes, which is again a slight copycat of yesteryear Telugu song. The chorus and interludes is presented with a touch of A.R. Rahman's stringed works and beats on Telephone Manipol' in 'Indian'. They lyrics are completely wavering and fail to hold your attention. Maybe, the continuous airing on satellite networks will preferably work out better results.
It's a self-aggrandizing song that has Naveen shifting his paradigms on different phonations. Of course, his style of rendition sounds completely different from the other song 'Naan Nadanthal'. Mani Sharma could've have opted for some other singer to avoid overdosed screech. The song is sure to be a favorite number well-tailored for Vijay fans.
The stringed instrumentals and rhythmic pattern on accompaniment beats blatantly reminiscences the theme music of Malayalam film 'Chotta Mumbai'. Mani Sharma has smartly depicted the difference with Rahul Nambiar's crooning style and lyrics by Kabilan make it dissimilar. But in all likelihood, the song has lots of similarities including the humming part at end.
Naam Nadanthal Athiradi... Singers:Naveen, Shoba Chandrasekhar & Janani Madhan Lyrics:Kabilan
Finally, it's one more replication from Mani Sharma's yesteryear composition of 'My Name is Billa'. It looks like the music director hasn't anything special for the Tamil version, thereby patently adjusting lyrics on rhyming patterns for adjusting his track. Naveen makes it sound at best and Vijay's mother Shoba Chandrasekhar along with Janani Madhan has done their parts well. But for those, who have heard the Telugu version that had realms of heroism, this may not be quite appropriate. On the whole, the album of 'Sura' has no surprises most of the songs have been already heard ones. Naturally, with Sun Pictures publicizing the songs throughout its networks may popularize it vigorously. Couple of songs 'Tamizhan Veera Tamizhan' and 'Vanga Kadal Ellai' is best picks in this album.
Verdict: A new album with old Tunes, Banner: Murugan Cine Arts, Sun Pictures, Production: Sangli Murugan, Kalanidhi Maaran, Direction: S.P. Rajkumar, Star-casts: Vijay, Thamanah, Vadivelu, Sriman, Dev Gill, Yuvarani and others, Music: Mani Sharma
Vijay's Sura is based on the sea life and fishermen. As a result, the film is shot mainly in the sea and on the sea shores. The Sura team had been camping in Thoothukudi to shoot a few important scenes and the climax. The climax, sources say, will be shot deep in the sea and Sura team had been traveling about 16 kms into the sea everyday to can it.It is important to note here that a major part of the MG Ramachandran starrer Aayirathil Oruvan, which was smash hit in its time, and its climax was shot in the sea. Sura will be on those lines with the climax being a feast for the viewers' eyes.
Tamil film industry may boast about certain amenities that gets it going on top ofworld. We've extraordinary actors, astounding technicians and their mind-boggling works. We've the World renowned actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth and A.R. Rahman, who make more news on headlines much greater in magnitude than Shah Rukh and other Khans of Bollywood. But then, there are few things that stop us from getting the film industry ahead. Few actors like Vijay who makes the situations worsened up. In a recent interview, with a print media owned by 'Vettaikaran' producers, he has mentioned that the film is a blockbuster…. Oops! did he ever visit the theatres on the 5th day, the audiences have felt as though a disastrous moment has happened. 'Vettaikaran is a blockbuster' can be the speculative lies that can't forgotten in centuries to come.
