The days of $300 Windows PC's are over. People have more expectations for their PC purchases than just email and word documents. People are opting to buy better PCs but less frequently.
Apple now is an option for people who have abandoned the crappy cheap computers and the iOS devices make Apple PCs even more attractive. Especially with Dual Boot options.
I've noticed more Linux users on campus opting for Apple PCs too. The people prefer Linux but like the ability to boot into Mac OS and get the benefits of that.

Now Obama's actions are even worse than Bush's.
So farfetched. May I remind you of a little matter called a Security Council resolution at the instigation of the Arab League? Bush and the neo-cons have no regard for international law.
To suggest that President Obama represents some new nadir in presidential overreach is pure baloney.
Check out all US military engagements since the 1940s. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_United_States_military_operations) None of them with congressional approval. You can argue that these many dozens, including Vietnam, all represent unconstitutional actions... but you can't argue that Obama represents some kind of new and dangerous deviation from the history of the last 70 years.

How are they coming up with the number of (gun) crimes committed by blacks? That is an important question because it is probably based on convictions. A higher percentage of blacks are arrested for crimes, which is compounded by a system (at least here) that convicts blacks at a higher rate. So, there may be a statistically disproportionate number of crimes committed by blacks, but if the system concentrates that trend, the statistics are going to seem worse than reality.
Are you saying that white people are just as likely to commit gun crime, but black people are more likely to get charged (no pun) with it?

Utter rubbish.
The next iPad will NOT have a 3D display.
You really think they'll bring out a retina 3D screen? Because I think retina would be slightly more of a priority.
No idea why this has even been posted...

Anyone tell me what good is a 64-bit processor other than being able to address more RAM. I know a 64-bit address bus alone doesn't make a 64-bit processor.
I also heard these are not "true" 64-bit processors, just the same old x86 processors w/ 64-bitty goodness added on. Any truth to this?
See the MacRumors guide that explains about ten major differences in the architecture between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo. 64 bit-ness is a very minor part of the difference. You get three quarters of the improvements even with 32 bit code.
And Formula 1 cars are not really Formula 1 cars, they are just normal cars with stronger engine, revved higher, less weight, optimised for good airflow at high speed and so on and so on and so on... Not at all different from the car you drive.

actually NATO doesn't come into play ... or do you see any german troops ? ;) ...
Good point. The involvement of Britain and France would seem enough, I guess, but you're correct, it's not a NATO operation.
... Just think about it: Sarkozy got funding for his last campaign illegally from libya. Can there be a more convinient way of getting away from that dirty laundry than bombing them into oblivion ? While at home showing how much of a strong leader he is for increasing popularity ?
Anne Applebaum made a similar argument in Slate just a few days ago, arguing that France, really Sarkozy, was pushing for the intervention in kind of 'wag the dog' scenario.

It is a different issue. That relates to repeating the tone after a couple of minutes if the user hasn't read the message. The "bug" we are referring to is that the SMS vibrate alert has gone from a continuous pulse to a "double-click" style. It is a positive for some, but for me it's a negative. Seems to be louder, and more obtrusive. Hard to describe.

Agreed. That would have been with a bigger cache though. Is there much of a speed bump for the 1.83?
The cache alone doesn't explain that particular benchmark, as overall speed increase clock for clock is only 10%. I haven't seen the 1.83 tested so can't comment.

So if you are going to be a pirate why bother buying a student version at all?
I agree. Why buy it at all. No need. However, I wouldn't consider someone paying for a student version to be a pirate. There's a legitimate student paying money for the software. It's no business of anyone who ends up using it. The discount is offered to students, a student buys it, case closed.

But you don't get the wired keyboard/mouse if you do that. In other words, the $60 is really more like $100 with a $40 credit for the wired kb/mouse.
Isn't a wired keyboard required when initially setting up the computer?

As pointed out on the flickr on appleinsider: the speakers of the macbook pro on the banner are smaller than they are on the 15''
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/gallery/qtvr15.html
Nope. They are not smaller - it's simply a matter of perspecitive, at this angle everything looks taller than wider - see the little iSync icon beside it ... you can tell it's not perfectly round but taller instead of wider. Same Macbook Pro, different perspective.
To test this ... pull up that MacBook gallery page you provided a link to, now stand to the left side of your monitor and look at it from the side ... it'll look just like the one on the poster.

Please bear in mind that Apple were still selling the iPhone 3G in May last year, less than a year ago!
I hear you, but keep in mind, most phone manufacturers don't offer any updates. New phones come out every 3 to 5 months for many manufacturers and are abandoned as soon as they hit the street.
Think of the Nexus One, the first Google branded phone. Less than a year old and can be considered ancient and outdated. Did it get any Android updates? I don't know, but it's highly unlikely that it will get Android 2.3 (if it even has 2.2). Phones, even as fancy as they are, are disposable goods designed to last at best a year. That folks can still be mostly happy with an iPhone 3G or even an iPhone 2G would be absurd from any other phone manufacturer.
Don't get me wrong, I think the iPhone has plenty of flaws. I would just lean towards the "The iPhone is the worst phone out there. Except for all the other phones..."

I'm going to be pissed if there's no new iPhone.
However, I don't think Apple cares about me.
Well, you have over two months to work yourself up into a full-scale snit.
iOS 5 will be soooo good it will make the iPhone 4 feel like an iPhone 5.

My old roommate's macbook started shutting down randomly last night. She is not pleased to say the least. Quality control... it is a beautiful thing... something Apple should give a try sometime haha!

When you look at Steve Job's odyssey from being Apple's CEO, bringing in Sculley, getting stabbed in the back and booted from his own company.
Jobs goes off on his own, founds Next computer, develops innovative hardware, makes alliances with the likes of George Lucas, founds Pixar and comes up with hit movie after hit movie.
Meanwhile Apple goes through the dark ages, predictions of Apple going belly up, they beg Steve Jobs to come back to the helm.
Jobs returns to Apple, gets to work and turns the company around with some of the most inspiring products (iMac) and great market presence.
Then his team comes up with the marvelous iPod. The Macintosh lineup is arguable the best in the PC world.
Things would have been much less interesting if Steve didn't have to make this difficult trek. Sometimes what looks bad can be the beginning of something great if you don't give up.
That is sooooo true. Without Jobs, apple would be in the *******.

I don't know what people are fussing about. If these price points are true, Windows Vista is pretty cheap.
Remember, if you buy Vista, it'll most likely last at least 4-5 years before the next paid upgrade, unlike with OS X where if you want the latest and greatest, you're looking at an upgrade almost every year.
Vista looks to be a big jump from WinXP too, and seems a lot more mac-like. Complain all you want, but more competition puts Cupertino into a sweat and drives Apple into innovating even more. Support for Direct X 10 is going to be felt in about 1-2 years when people start getting DX10 graphics cards and more games take advantage of it.
