A lot of users don't mind if they get crap, as long as it's cheap crap. I can't count the number of times I've heard recently people saying that all they want from their computer is to be able to surf the web, check email, and do a Word document.
Unfortunately, these people may say that they only use their computer for that. Of course when they see their friends using digital cameras and printing photos, they all of a sudden decide that they can do that on their computer, and next thing you know they have a copy of Photoshop running that they "copied" from a friend and they are complaining because their computer is too slow.
This is why I think that Apple has it right with one, full-featured version of their software. The pricing tiers are just an excuse for Microsoft to charge $400 a computer for businesses, while ripping off the consumer who doesn't know any better by selling a sub-standard product.

Oh ya... he's something cheesie... this has been on my mind for a while. In january, Steve demoed GarageBand and showed how to make PodCast. He did that fake podcast and said 'Hi this is steve, and this is my Super secret apple PodCast' then he proceded to make jokes about the next iPod... he said the next iPod coming out would have a 10 inch screen and weigh 8 pounds.

We're very used to using a mouse, but it's definitely not the most natural way to interact with a computer.
Voice commands are the most natural way to interact with a computer. But it does not work well.
Touch screens are more natural than the mouse and keyboard. But they too do not work as well.
I choose usability over "natural".

I really hope Apple makes some changes, anyone who has developed or listren to developers knows what a stupid process this is to get an app approved.
What will actually make developers happy? Free run? I respect Apple's right to try to keep their platform within the guidelines that the determine. Apple isn't perfect but the Facebook developer did the right thing... He tucked his tail between his legs and ran... It's cool when people give up. (sarcasm intended) He's a developer, he's gonna deal with different platforms with different rules ALL THE TIME! Soon the internet will start "locking down," then what will he do? I think the Facebook app could be a lot better, I'm not claiming to be able to code it and what-not but the apps shortcomings can't be all linked to Apple's approval process. That's what I think this developer should have focused on: making the app as amazingly good as possible within the "confinements" that are in place.

There are plenty of people who study The Beatles work. Their work was even studied as it was written. So much so Lennon wrote songs to confuse them. I mean, there are even college courses on Radiohead's music. I feel there are a lot a music snobs in this thread.
When you study harmony, who are you going to study the most? Bach
When you study Music History of the Baroque era, who is going to take the biggest part of the semester? Bach.
When you study Harpsichord or organ, who is the biggest composer you are going to study? Bach. Even when you do piano, you are going to study Bach at leas at the beginning before your Liszt and Rachmaninoff.
I know they teach popular music at universities. The course on popular is music is optional. My wife took a course on popular music at Montreal university. I think that the more, the merrier.
I'd would be cool to keep the hype about the iPod high, including a completely new funcionality in mp3 players. IMHO, it would capitalize more sales to Apple and a whole knew interest in iPods.

I wouldn't be shocked if WalMart were telling studios don't sell to Apple. The ethics of Walmart have never been in question: they don't have any.

ive spent over 10,000 on itunes since it came out... you dont know me dude... im the farthest thing from a cheapskate in the universe.... im tyoing this now from my yacht in Bora Bora it isnt about the money, its about the convenience.... itunes works cause its instant gratification, im not going to fly to some developed country just to buy a cd by a group thats too stuck on themselves to join the rest of the world offering their product in a convenient manor... screw them...

I'm confused. Are iPad 2s in short supply or not? If they cannot be found at multiple Apple stores, why is Apple broadening distribution to Toys R us?
Broadening distribution -- whether new territories or new outlets in established territories -- usually follows a slow down in sales growth.
The only other possible explanation is that some initial production constraints have been overcome and the product (or particular models of it) is arriving for Apple in numbers exceeding their ability to sell. But then, iPad 2s would be in plentiful stock in Apple stores.
Don't get it.

Ditto. My poor 3G is one step away from being an ipod only... I hate that Apple has essentially bricked that phone. Mine is in great shape, but barely works after the 4.0 update. Retro would be ideal.
I've seen some 3G models that work great w/ 4.2.1 and some that don't. One was jailbroken, so I wrote that one off. The one thing I've seen that helped a s l o w non-jailbroken one was a double reset (force the phone to reboot, load, then force reboot once more). You could also do a complete wipe and see if it performs well before restoring your backup -and then do a piece by piece restore if that solved the issue.
I don't think 4.x is that bad for everyone on a 3G, but I have seen it in "slow mode"- and the people experiencing this are not making it up. It's -bad-. I wish there were a definitive fix other than trial and error as above and hoping you don't put something on your phone to cause it again...

I ordered a 30GB iPod and the standard white 1,83Ghz Macbook on September 2nd, and it said it was due to ship out on the 13th. I therefore thought that they'd upgrade the iPod (more likely than the MB) before sending it to me, but I just got an e-mail saying it shipped today.
Bit bummed that I didn't get the upgrade (well, I can only presume), but at the same time stoked to get my Macbook and iPod more than a week earlier than I first thought!
Just FYI.

I used to think that, but then I started using my old (now deceased) Kyocera 7135 smartphone to read books. Smaller screen than the iPod, not as high resolution. At one point I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in a single weekend on it, with absolutely no feelings of eye strain. It's not an issue any more.
I found when reading on a smart phone I actually preferred it over a paperback -- easier to hold open (so I could sip my coffee), no worries about losing the page, backlight meant that I could read on the bus in the morning on the way to work, or other places where lighting wasn't always convenient.
Additionally I found I read more, because I always had several books with me, and they were always handy -- standing in a supermarket lineup, I could pull it out and read 2 or 3 pages while waiting.
These days I've even experimented with using j2me to read books on my T610. Not as comfy as the Kyocera, but again no issues with eye strain.
If the T610 is readable, the iPod will be no problem...
