i've been teaching mod*tot how to sew. she draws dolly dress designs, then picks out fabrics from my colorful fabric stash + we cut the fabric together with scissors (normally, i use a rotary cutter, but it's too sharp to practice with). then we pin the pieces together + i show her all the settings + parts of the sewing machine + we sew the dresses + try them on the dollies. it was also fun to show her little tricks for handsewing, like threading a needle + making a knot. they're things i do automatically + seem simple, but take a lot of dexterity + look like magic tricks to her.

time to scope out, scan + squeeze your lemons for lumps + signs of breast cancer. i'm off to the oncology office for a clinical exam + blood test. even though i've been having a lot of fun this past week + weekend, i'm having an extra hard time concentrating + i think it's partly because of this exam. i'll be relieved when it's done. it's been 1 year since my mastectomy + underarm surgery + 7 months since my last radiation + chemotherapy. my arm is still a mess + i'm out of shape, but my heart is getting stronger + i'm excited about the future. well, here i go to the chemo office.
